About Us
How it started
Statement Collective was created by Dan & Patrick in the early spring of 2018. We met through a mutual friend and found a common interest in music, jewellery and business which led to us starting a brand together.
Dan was making his own jewellery with chains from Bunnings and selling it on Facebook marketplace, Pat was building websites for clients when we realised we could combine our skillsets and start a jewellery brand. At the time, there wasn't a real market for alternative jewellery. With both of us being musicians, we wanted to create something for people like us and that spoke to the alternative music and tattoo culture we grew up with.
The core idea behind Statement Collective is 'wearable art'. We wanted to take classic tattoo designs and re-imagine them in a 3 dimensional medium. We spent many long nights designing our first run of jewellery in order to perfectly capture the vision we had.
The Process
At the start, we were making everything by hand and shipping it from Dan's house in Brisbane. The process was time consuming but it taught us everything we needed to know about how to manage the business. It helped us learn what our customers needed and how to best live up to their expectations.
In 2020 we got in contact with a manufacturer to start producing more jewellery at scale, since we couldn't keep up with the demand anymore. This was a massive moment for us, and the first time it felt like a real business. We moved everything out of Dan's living room and set up our first warehouse in Pat's garage.
Now we could focus on the design process and this resulted in our first big run of new products which we named 'Drop X'. From there, we have continually worked to improve the quality of the designs and materials that we use.
We decided early on that 316L Surgical Grade Stainless Steel was what we wanted to produce our jewellery in. This allowed us to price our products competitively and ensure that they would never tarnish or break. We wanted our jewellery to be able to stand the test of time, and not cost a ridiculous amount like some other brands.
Since then, we have moved on to produce 18K gold plated and .925 Sterling Silver jewellery as well.
